The proliferation of wildfires in Southern California could increase insurance costs for film and television productions in the region, McGuireWoods Century City partner Kirk Pasich told The Hollywood Reporter in a Jan. 16, 2025, story.
The article examined the impact of the Los Angeles wildfires on the entertainment industry, from displacing actors and production professionals to driving up the costs of doing business in the region. January is “an atypical timeframe for major wildfires in Southern California,” the magazine reported. The possibility that wildfire season will be year-round will drive up insurance costs, said Pasich, co-leader of McGuireWoods’ insurance recovery team.
“The risk doesn’t have the same temporal limitations anymore,” Pasich said. “So if there’s a production in January or February in an area susceptible to winds, the price will go up.”
