Brandi focuses her practice on helping corporate and individual clients navigate complex legal challenges in commercial trial and appellate litigation, as well as in government investigations. She is known for her ability to deliver thoughtful, strategic solutions to high-stakes matters to achieve favorable outcomes in complex disputes.

In her litigation practice, Brandi represents clients in cases involving constitutional issues, including free speech, religious freedom, and sovereign immunity. She also handles complex breach of contract disputes and consumer protection claims. Brandi is a trusted advocate for legal matters in the District of Columbia, frequently appearing before the D.C. Superior Court, D.C. Court of Appeals, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

Brandi’s investigations practice encompasses defending clients in government and congressional investigations, often involving consumer protection and employment issues. She also conducts internal investigations to address potential regulatory and workplace concerns, providing clients with clear guidance to mitigate risks and ensure compliance.

Recognized for her leadership and impact in the legal profession, Brandi has been named to the National Bar Association’s “Top 40 Under 40” and The National Black Lawyers’ “Top 40 Under 40” in Washington, D.C. She brings a unique perspective to her practice as a two-time appellate law clerk, having clerked for former Chief Judge Eric T. Washington of the D.C. Court of Appeals and civil rights icon Damon J. Keith of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. While in law school, Brandi was an intern at the U.S. Department of Justice. A moot court champion, she was also a member of two law journals, both at the University of Texas School of Law, where she received her juris doctor degree, and at the Georgetown University Law Center, where she attended as a visiting student from 2011-2012.

Experience

  • Successfully first-chaired a trial on behalf of loan servicer in case regarding real estate in the District of Columbia and involving complex and novel issues regarding D.C.’s super-priority lien statute and the District’s interpretation of the “Federal Foreclosure Bar” of the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008.
  • As lead counsel in Conrad v. D.C. Alcoholic Beverage Control Bd., 287 A.3d 635 (D.C. 2023), won reversal in the D.C. Court of Appeals of administrative agency decision regarding the renewal of a liquor license in a high-crime area of Washington, D.C., after the agency’s improper burden-shifting and failure to properly consider relevant evidence.
  • Conducted high-profile internal investigation concerning the chief executive officer of a nonprofit corporation after allegations of workplace misconduct and potential regulatory violations.
  • Represented a proprietary institution before the U.S. Department of Education, Federal Student Aid’s Borrower Defense Unit, regarding hundreds of borrower defenses to repayment claims under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, resulting in no adverse action against the institution.
  • Represented a consumer products and retail company in a congressional investigation.
  • Successfully defended realty trust in a third-party deposition and responded to document subpoenas filed in an investor fraud dispute, resulting in the trust not being named as a party in the case. Successfully obtained summary judgment for a public university in a high-profile First Amendment lawsuit that drew national media attention.
  • Successfully represented religious institution in contract dispute against a security company in the District of Columbia.
  • Represented a large tech company in a congressional inquiry involving employee wage issues, successfully addressing the committee’s concerns and resulting in the decision not to pursue further investigation.
  • Represented medical marijuana company in administrative appeal regarding a medical marijuana license in the District of Columbia.
  • Conducted an internal investigation of allegations of Foreign Corrupt Practices Act violations by anon-U.S. operations group of a large product manufacturing company.
  • Represented a healthcare provider in a government antitrust investigation.
  • Represented a healthcare provider in an IRS investigation involving PPE.
  • Represented a healthcare product distributor in a DOJ fraud investigation.
  • Conducted an internal investigation for a health care provider in relation to FCA issues involving cost reporting.
  • Represented a GSA schedule contractor against a qui tam lawsuit fi led under the FCA alleging improper sales in violation of the Trade Agreements Act.
  • Represented a group of health care providers in a state court appeal against a large insurer for underpayments for emergency healthcare services.
  • Successfully defended a university in class action litigation alleging violations of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.
