McGuireWoods Partner John Moran Discusses How Businesses Can Adapt to New Policies

May 2, 2025

McGuireWoods partner John Moran shared insights with Virginia Business magazine for a May 2025 story on how law firms helped businesses manage a whirlwind of regulatory and policy changes in the early months of the Trump administration.

“The number of issues that clients have sought help in navigating is almost as varied as the clients themselves,” said Moran, a Washington, D.C., partner in the firm’s nationally recognized Government Investigations & White Collar Litigation Department. He served as associate White House counsel and as a senior official at the U.S. Department of Justice in the first Trump administration.

Moran said McGuireWoods helps businesses across industries ensure compliance with the administration’s executive orders. The firm provides guidance to clients focused on uncertainties about regulatory changes, such as those affecting the energy industry.

“These clients are trying to navigate their way through a deregulatory environment without mis-stepping, or they’re wanting to come up with a thoughtful approach,” he said.

In addition to providing legal and strategic advice, McGuireWoods lawyers and policy consultants advise on how best to work with individuals in the new administration, Moran said.

“It’s all the more important that clients are not only getting good advice and answers to discrete legal questions, but sound and wise counsel about how to navigate broader challenges they face,” Moran said.
